AI, AI, AI!!!
In the age of AI, how do we keep designing experiences that are effective and, yes, enjoyable for humans? Why does effective UX still matter so much when you, the client, are designing a new website, web app, or interactive journey?
The truth is as AI systems become more sophisticated, they can automate and optimize many tasks. As we get more fluent with the tools, this is bound to save both time and money. But because the human experience remains central to how users interact with technology, User Experience (UX) design–actual HUMAN EXPERIENCE design, will continue to play a crucial role.
Firstly, UX matters because it uniquely focuses on the user and you humans out there; if you’re paying attention, every user is unique! No matter how advanced AI becomes, it’s the human end-user who will ultimately judge the success of any digital product. So it stands to reason that it’s the human UX designer who will continue to apply uniquely human intuition to this process. As AI becomes an increasingly useful tool, outcomes will nevertheless continue to require human approval to judge their success. A website designed without considering this can end up being confusing, frustrating, or even alienating to users. This will lead to higher bounce rates, lower engagement, and ultimately, lost business opportunities. Cha-ching! That got your attention!
In a world where generative AI can make content and increasingly “personalized” experiences, the challenge is to create original interfaces that feel intuitive and human-centered. Good UX design makes sure that the tech behind the website works seamlessly with the actual needs and behaviors of your users. It’s about creating a flow that guides users naturally through the site, making it easy for them to find what they need and achieve their goals without friction.
Achieving this still requires human subject matter expertise.
Additionally, enjoyable experiences foster brand loyalty. For now, AI hasn’t figured out how to be subtle, how to apply a certain “je ne sais quoi.” A website that’s not only functional but also delightful to use can differentiate your brand in a noisy, crowded market. UX design considers aesthetics, usability, and emotional impact so that users are feelin’ groovy about their interactions with the site. As with other AI tools that are rapidly evolving, it will remain critical that you, O human, remain the ultimate judge and guardrail on this process.
As AI continues to evolve, UX remains the bridge between technology and human needs. Investing in thoughtful UX design is essential for creating websites that are not just effective but also genuinely enjoyable to use.
